On January 22, 2019, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 06/2019/ND-CP on the management of forest plants, endangered, precious, and rare forest animals, and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
To ensure the effective protection of forest plants and endangered, precious, and rare forest animals, Decree 06/2019/ND-CP has introduced the following notable regulations:
- Activities such as hunting, shooting, capturing, exploiting, breeding, keeping, killing, storing, processing, transporting, trading in endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals must not negatively impact the existence, growth, and development of those species in the wild.- All activities related to hunting, shooting, capturing, exploiting, breeding, keeping, killing, storing, transporting, trading, processing, advertising, displaying, exporting, importing, temporary import for re-export, and temporary export for re-import of specimens of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals must be managed and ensure legal origin.- Habitats frequently and densely inhabited by endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals will be designated as special-use forests.
