On April 27, 2024, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Official Telegram 41/CD-TTg on strengthening the implementation of urgent measures for forest fire prevention and fighting.

Strengthening the implementation of urgent measures for forest fire prevention and fighting in Vietnam​

To proactively prevent and fight forest fires, minimize the damage caused by forest fires, on April 4, 2024, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam issued Official Telegram 31/CD-TTg on proactively strengthening urgent measures for forest fire prevention and fighting. The Prime Minister of Vietnam appreciates the effective proactive implementation of forest fire prevention and fighting by ministries, central authorities, and local authorities.

In Ha Giang province, in recent days, the weather has been continuously hot, over 40°C; on April 26, 2024, a forest fire occurred in the border area of three communes: Phuong Tien, Lao Chai, Xin Chai, Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province, causing damage to many hectares of forest, affecting the ecological environment and the lives of people in the area. Particularly, the aforementioned forest fire resulted in the death of two Forest Protection officers from the Forest Protection Department of Vi Xuyen district and the Special-use Forest Protection Department Phong Quang - Tay Con Linh during their firefighting duties.

On behalf of the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang sends the most heartfelt condolences to the families of the Forest Protection officers who perished in Ha Giang province; he requests the Ministers, Heads of government agencies, and Presidents of Provincial and City People's Committees to enhance directives and decisively implement urgent measures for forest fire prevention and fighting, and concentrate on overcoming the aftermath of forest fires, focusing on the following tasks:

- The President of the Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee shall organize visits, encouragements, and support for the families of the deceased; direct relevant agencies to promptly implement policies in accordance with the law for the officers who died while participating in forest fire fights; continue to enhance urgent measures for forest fire prevention and fighting in the area.

- The Ministers of the Ministries of National Defense, Public Security, Agriculture and Rural Development, Industry and Trade, Planning and Investment, Finance, Natural Resources and Environment, Information and Communications, and Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, according to their assigned state management functions, shall proactively direct relevant agencies, local governments, and authorities to continue implementing urgent measures for forest fire prevention and fighting; cooperate with the Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee to implement policies in accordance with the law for the officers who died while participating in forest fire fights.

- The Presidents of Provincial and City People's Committees shall continue to strictly implement Official Telegram 31/CD-TTg dated April 4, 2024, of the Prime Minister of Vietnam on proactively strengthening urgent measures for forest fire prevention and fighting; Conclusion 61-KL/TW dated August 17, 2023, of the Secretariat on continuing the implementation of Directive 13-CT/TW dated January 12, 2017, of the Secretariat on strengthening the leadership of the Vietnam Communist Party towards forest management, protection, and development and related directives; promptly commend and reward organizations and individuals actively participating in forest fire prevention and fighting; be responsible to the Prime Minister of Vietnam if widespread and severe forest fires occur within their jurisdiction.
