On June 01, 2020, the Ministry of Public Security submitted the Draft Law on ensuring road traffic order and safety to the National Assembly of Vietnam for consideration. This Draft Law has stipulated the maximum speed allowed for motor vehicles to participate in road traffic.
Specifically, according to Article 40 of the Draft Law on ensuring road traffic order and safety of Vietnam, speed limits for motor vehicles to participate in road traffic to ensure road traffic order and safety are specified as follows:
1. Speed limits in densely populated areas (except expressways) for cars, tractors, motorcycles
- Dual carriageway; one-way road with at least 2 lanes: not exceed 60 km/h;
- Two-way single carriageway; one-way road with 1 lane: not exceed 50 km/h.
2. Speed limits outside densely populated areas (except expressways) for sedans, motor vehicles for transport of up to 30 people (except buses); trucks with payload capacity of up to 3,5 tonnes:
- Dual carriageway; one-way road with at least 2 lanes: not exceed 90 km/h;
- Two-way single carriageway; one-way road with 1 lane: not exceed 80 km/h;
3. Speed limits outside densely populated areas (except expressways) for motor vehicles for transport of more than 30 people (except buses); trucks with payload capacity of more than 3,5 tonnes:
- Dual carriageway; one-way road with at least 2 lanes: not exceed 80 km/h;
- Two-way single carriageway; one-way road with 1 lane: not exceed 70 km/h;
4. Speed limits outside densely populated areas (except expressways) for buses; tractors towing a semi-trailer; specialized vehicles; motorbikes:
- Dual carriageway; one-way road with at least 2 lanes: not exceed 70 km/h;
- Two-way single carriageway; one-way road with 1 lane: not exceed 60 km/h;
5. Speed limits outside densely populated areas (except expressways) for motor vehicles towing a trailer; motor vehicles towing other vehicles:
- Dual carriageway; one-way road with at least 2 lanes: not exceed 60 km/h;
- Two-way single carriageway; one-way road with 1 lane: not exceed 50 km/h;
6. Speed limits for heavy-duty vehicles, mopeds (including electric bikes) and similar vehicles on public roads shall be indicated by road signs and shall not exceed 40 km/h.
