Specialized clinical pharmacists in Vietnam must have a bachelor degree in pharmacy

Below is notable content specified in Circular 31/2012/TT-BYT providing guidelines on clinical pharmacy activities in hospitals in Vietnam, of the Ministry of Health, issued on December 20, 2012.

Article 3 of Circular 31/2012/TT-BYT stipulates that specialized clinical pharmacists in Vietnam must have a bachelor degree in pharmacy and must satisfy one out of the following three requirements:

- Receive continuous trainings and have practicing certificate in clinical pharmacy.

- Receive specialized university trainings in clinical pharmacy

- Receive postgraduate specialized trainings in pharmacology – clinical pharmacy.

In addition, Article 4 of Circular 31/2012/TT-BYT stipulates requirements for human resources and facilities to implement clinical pharmacy activities in Vietnam as follows:

Human resources:

- The clinical pharmacists must be trained and regularly updated with Vietnamese and international treatment guidelines, related documents on medicine and pharmacy, as well as documents on scientific and technological subjects which serve the clinical pharmacy activities.

- The clinical pharmacists must be allowed to participate in scientific conferences and professional classes in order to get access to domestic, regional and international clinical pharmacy.

Facilities:

- Equipment: there must be a computer system connected to the internet, printers, fax machines and telephones.

- Office chairs and desks, bookshelves.

- Documents, books, newspapers, magazines, scientific drugs research software: there must be a minimum number of documents, books, newspapers, magazines and scientific drugs research software which is specified in the list of must-have facilities, according to Appendix 1 to Circular 31/2012/TT-BYT.
