Some Notes When Driving and Encountering Yellow Lights

According to Circular 06/2016/TT-BGTVT on the issuance of the National Technical Regulation on Road Signs, drivers of vehicles when participating in traffic in areas with traffic lights must comply with certain regulations.

Particularly for the yellow signal, please note the following:

- When the yellow signal is on, vehicle operators must stop their vehicles before the painted line “Stop Line”. If there is no “Stop Line”, they must stop in front of the traffic signal in the direction of travel.- In cases where vehicles have approached or crossed “Stop Line”, if stopping would be dangerous, they must quickly proceed out of the intersection.- Flashing yellow signal: indicates the ability to proceed but requires attention and cautious observation, yielding to pedestrians or other vehicles as regulated by the Road Traffic Law.

At intersections where there are both traffic signals and signs and painted lines, drivers must follow the orders of the traffic signals. If traffic signals are not used to control traffic according to individual lanes, the traffic signals will apply to the entire roadway in the direction of travel. In cases where traffic signals are off or there is a flashing yellow signal, drivers must follow traffic signs and painted lines in the order of effectiveness as regulated.

Circular 06/2016/TT-BGTVT has been effective since November 1, 2016.
