Skills Required for College-Level Tourism Guides

This is the new regulation mentioned in Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH Regulations on minimum knowledge volume, competency requirements that learners must achieve after graduating from secondary level and college level in the fields of tourism, hospitality, sports, and personal services.

Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulates that students in the Tourism Guiding major at the college level must have the following skills upon graduation:

- Organize surveys and design basic and complex tourism programs according to customer requirements;

- Consult and effectively sell tourism programs to meet customer requirements and comply with legal regulations;

- Fully prepare the requirements regarding content, means, and supporting equipment before performing tourism guiding tasks;

- Build plans and programs for organizing tourist reception;

- Build plans and programs for tourist accommodation and dining;

- Organize team-building activities, recreational and shopping activities to meet tourist requirements;

- Provide commentary at tourist sites and on transportation means;

- Manage tourists during the tour ensuring safety and adherence to the itinerary;

- Build plans and supervise the safe and effective departure of tourists;

- Establish and maintain relationships with service providers;

- Compile evaluation reports on the outcomes of tourism programs;

- Communicate effectively with customers in Vietnamese and other foreign languages suitable for guiding tourists;

- Operate customer care and effectively resolve customer complaints before, during, and after the tour program;

- Use correctly and safely all types of equipment in the guiding department;

- Update new knowledge and information about tourism routes and sites;

- Grasp new development trends in culture, tourism, travel, hotels and effectively apply them in the work;

- Perform business transaction procedures with service providers and customers;

- Use basic information technology as prescribed; exploit, process, and apply information technology in the specialized work of the industry;

- Use basic foreign languages, achieving level 2/6 in the Vietnam Foreign Language Competency Framework, and apply foreign languages to the specialized work of the industry.

Additionally, this Circular also stipulates about the job positions after graduating from the Tourism Guiding major at the college level:

- Domestic tour guide;

- On-site guide;

- International tour guide.
