On February 13, 2015, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 03/2015/BTNMT regulating the exploration, classification of reserves, and classification of primary gold mineral resources.
To be specific, in Article 13 Circular 03/2015/BTNMT, it is stipulated that the selection of exploration works must meet the following requirements:
Selection, layout of primary gold mineral exploration works (Illustration)
- In the exploration of primary gold minerals, excavation works (trenches, wells, tunnels) and drilling can be chosen. The selected exploration works must be suitable for the conditions of the deposit, depth of distribution, geological structure, morphology, thickness of each ore body, and the characteristics of the cover layer;
- At the works, detailed sampling must be conducted to determine the quality, distribution rules of ore types, weathering depth, structure characteristics of the walls, and pillars of the ore body;
- For mines with very complex geological structures, to clarify the conditions of the deposit, shapes, and internal structure of the ore body, tunnel works along or across the ore vein should be used, limiting the use of drilling works;
- Drilling works must recover the highest possible amount of core samples. The core sampling rate must not be less than 70% per drilling series through rock and 85% through ore. To enhance the reliability of drilling works, it is encouraged to use geophysical hole logging methods;
- Holes deeper than 100m must have their deviation and inclination angle checked every 10m to 20m;
- For ore bodies with a large dip angle, inclined or horizontal drilling methods should be applied;
- Exploration works must cut through the entire thickness of the ore body.
Additionally, when arranging works and selecting the exploration network density, the following requirements must be ensured:
- The arrangement of exploration works must ensure a comprehensive evaluation of the geological structure, morphology, size, deposit conditions, thickness stability, and quality of the ore bodies;
- The exploration network is stipulated in Appendix 2 issued with this Circular;
- Exploration works, mining works, and natural and artificial exposures in the exploration area must be described, geologically mapped, and original documents promptly, fully, and accurately prepared according to current regulations on the collection of original documents in mineral exploration and included in the actual document map.
