On January 13, 2016, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 01/2016/TT-BTNMT specifying the research work on quality when surveying riverbed sand and gravel.
Circular 01 stipulates that all conducted exploration works must collect and establish various types of documents as per current regulations, and take samples for quality, quantity, and sample type research, in accordance with the research objectives outlined in the exploration project. For trench samples, the maximum length should not exceed 10m.
Quarries for soil and rock used as filling materials must take, process, and analyze the following types of samples:
- Mechanical and physical samples: taken at the exploration works, each product layer must have 01 comprehensive mechanical and physical sample;- Each product layer must take 01 sample to determine: bulk density, moisture content, and loosening coefficient; 01 comprehensive trench sample for chemical analysis and radioactivity.
Additionally, Circular 01 stipulates that riverbed sand and gravel mines must take, process, and analyze the following types of samples:
- Granulometric analysis samples: taken and analyzed by product layer and must comply with the length regulations for trench samples;- Comprehensive chemical and radioactivity samples, mechanical and physical samples, heavy mineral samples, bulk density samples, loosening coefficient determination samples: must represent the product layers present in the mine, with at least 01 sample per product layer.- Furthermore, depending on the usage purpose, other types of samples may be taken and analyzed as deemed appropriate for resource calculation criteria.
Note that the procedures for sampling, processing, analyzing, and quality control of mechanical and physical samples for soil and rock used as filling materials, and granulometric samples for riverbed sand and gravel, must comply with current regulations on quality control.
See details in Circular 01/2016/TT-BTNMT effective from March 1, 2016.
