Requirements to be met after graduating from the college-level program of metal casting technology in Vietnam

On December 23, 2019, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam issued Circular 21/2019/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum volume of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation at the intermediate level and college level for professions in the fields of computers, information technology, and technical technology.

Requirements to be met after graduating from the college-level program of metal casting technology in Vietnam (Illustrative image)

According to the regulations issued together with Circular 21/2019/TT-BLDTBXH, the minimum knowledge that learners must achieve after graduating in college-level program of metal casting technology in Vietnam is as follows:

- Present the technical requirements of the machine part; the casting frame part, the casting pattern, and the core box;

- Present the technical requirements for metal materials used to produce products by casting technology;

- Present the process of preparing metal materials to cast products;

- Identify casting methods;

- Analyze and select suitable metal casting technology according to the product requirements;

- Analyze and select the proper parting line according to technical requirements;

- Analyze and arrange gating, feeding, and venting systems to ensure technical requirements;

- Adjust the casting design to ensure good quality castings;

- Differentiate the moisture content of the sand mixture, the breathability, and the compactness of the mold;

- Explain the causes leading to defective products and scrap in metal casting;- Present the structure and operating principle of advanced industrial casting lines;

- Summarize the structure and operating principle of equipment used for loading, unloading, and transporting materials for metal casting (Cranes, hoists, magnetic platforms...);

- Present knowledge about occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and fire and explosion prevention in metal casting;

- Present basic knowledge about politics, culture, society, law, national defense and security, and physical education as prescribed.

Additionally, graduates must also meet the following skill requirements:

- Draw drawings of blanks, patterns, cores, and mold assembly drawings (sand molds);

- Read technical drawings in the field of metal casting technology (detailed drawings, assembly drawings...);

- Analyze and adjust the structure and shape details to meet the technical requirements of the casting;

- Develop metal casting process in sand molds;

- Assemble and adjust the gating, feeding, and venting systems, and guiding channels in sand molds to ensure the quality of the casting;

- Perform basic movements of a foundry worker and organize tools scientifically;

- Use the correct types of tools and equipment for each job;

- Mix the sand mold mixture with the correct component ratio;

- Inspect and operate metal melting furnaces for casting;

- Operate machines and equipment in the mold-making line;

- Use specialized mechanical engineering software in 2D, 3D to aid in the casting design;

- Properly use equipment to ensure occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and fire and explosion prevention in metal casting technology;

- Use basic information technology as prescribed; apply information technology in professional work in the field and occupation;

- Use basic foreign languages, reaching level 2/6 in the Vietnam’s Foreign Language Proficiency Framework; apply foreign languages in professional work in the field and occupation.

Furthermore, learners must have a sense of civic responsibility, a proper attitude, and professional ethics; have scientific working methods, know how to analyze and solve new issues in the field of metal casting technology; be dynamic, confident, and progressive in work; cooperate, be friendly, and humble in relationships; take responsibility for the quality of their work and products according to standards and be accountable for the work results and product quality of the team or group; assess the quality of work after completion and evaluate their own performance and that of team members before the organization's leaders; have a consciousness of studying and training to improve professional qualifications and job skills.
