On November 14, 2024, the National Assembly Standing Committee of VIetnam issued Resolution 1279/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Quang Ngai Province for the period 2023-2025.

Reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Quang Ngai province from January 1, 2025

Resolution 1279/NQ-UBTVQH15 of 2024 resolves the reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Quang Ngai Province from January 1, 2025, as follows:

(1) Reorganization of commune-level administrative units within Quang Ngai City

- Establish An Phu Commune based on the merger of the entire natural area of 3.34 km² and population size of 22,566 people from Nghia An Commune, and the entire natural area of 4.35 km² and population size of 8,740 people from Nghia Phu Commune. After establishment, An Phu Commune will have a natural area of 7.69 km² and a population size of 31,306 people.

An Phu Commune borders Nghia Ha, Tinh Khe, Tinh Long Communes; Mo Duc District, Tu Nghia District and the East Sea;

- After reorganization, Quang Ngai City will have 22 commune-level administrative units, including 09 wards and 13 communes.

(2) Reorganization of commune-level administrative units within Mo Duc District

- Establish Thang Loi Commune based on the merger of the entire natural area of 4.66 km² and population size of 8,949 people from Duc Loi Commune, and the entire natural area of 11.72 km² and population size of 8,016 people from Duc Thang Commune. After establishment, Thang Loi Commune will have a natural area of 16.38 km² and a population size of 16,965 people.

Thang Loi Commune borders Duc Chanh, Duc Nhuan Communes; Tu Nghia District, Quang Ngai City and the East Sea;

- After reorganization, Mo Duc District will have 12 commune-level administrative units, including 11 communes and 01 commune-level town.

(3) Reorganization of commune-level administrative units within Tu Nghia District

- Adjust a portion of the natural area of 2.99 km² and population size of 4,916 people from Nghia My Commune and a portion of the natural area of 0.78 km² and population size of 1,745 people from Nghia Phuong Commune to merge into Song Ve commune-level town. After adjustment, Song Ve commune-level town will have a natural area of 6.42 km2 and a population size of 15,044 people.

Song Ve Town borders Nghia Hiep, Nghia Phuong, Nghia Thuong Communes; Mo Duc District and Nghia Hanh District;

- Merge the entire natural area of 1.47 km² and population size of 1,632 people from Nghia My Commune after the adjustment under point a of this clause into Nghia Phuong Commune. After merging, Nghia Phuong Commune will have a natural area of 7.31 km² and a population size of 10,127 people.

Nghia Phuong Commune borders Nghia Thuong, Nghia Trung Communes, Song Ve commune-level town, and Nghia Hanh District;

- After reorganization, Tu Nghia District will have 13 commune-level administrative units, including 11 communes and 02 commune-level towns.

(4) Reorganization of commune-level administrative units within Son Tinh District

- Establish Tinh Ha commune-level town based on the merger of the entire natural area of 19.81 km² and population size of 18,234 people from Tinh Ha Commune, and a portion of the natural area of 0.37 km² and population size of 647 people from Tinh Son Commune. After establishment, Tinh Ha commune-level town will have a natural area of 20.18 km² and a population size of 18,881 people.

Tinh Ha Town borders Tinh Binh, Tinh Son, Tinh Tho Communes; Tu Nghia District and Quang Ngai City;

- After adjustment under point a of this clause, Tinh Son Commune will have a natural area of 14.36 km² and a population size of 9,689 people.

Tinh Son Commune borders Tinh Bac, Tinh Binh, Tinh Minh Communes, Tinh Ha commune-level town, and Tu Nghia District;

- After reorganization, Son Tinh District will have 11 commune-level administrative units, including 10 communes and 01 commune-level town.

After arranging commune-level administrative units, Quang Ngai Province will have 13 district-level administrative units, including 11 districts, 01 district-level town, and 01 city; and 170 commune-level administrative units, including 144 communes, 17 wards, and 09 commune-level towns.
