Below are the regulations regarding the reorganization of commune-level administrative units within Kien Giang Province from December 1, 2024.

On October 24, 2024, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam issued Resolution 1247/NQ-UBTVQH15 regarding the reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Kien Giang Province for the period 2023 – 2025.
The reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Rach Gia City of Kien Giang Province from December 1, 2024, is as follows:
- Merge the entire natural area of 1.18 km2 and a population size of 15,990 people from Vinh Bao Ward into Vinh Thanh Van Ward. After the merger, Vinh Thanh Van Ward will have a natural area of 1.99 km2 and a population size of 27,429 people.
Vinh Thanh Van Ward borders Vinh Hiep, Vinh Lac, Vinh Thanh wards and the Gulf of Thailand;
- After the reorganization, Rach Gia City will consist of 11 commune-level administrative units, including 10 wards and 1 commune.
After reorganizing the commune-level administrative units, Kien Giang Province will have 15 district-level administrative units, including 12 districts and 3 cities; 143 commune-level administrative units, including 116 communes, 17 wards, and 10 townships.
The Government of Vietnam, the Provincial People's Council, the People's Committee of Kien Giang Province, and relevant agencies and organizations are responsible for implementing this Resolution; organizing and consolidating the apparatus of local agencies and organizations; stabilizing the life of local people, ensuring the requirements of socio-economic development, national defense, and security in the area.
- The naming and renaming of administrative units formed after the reorganization shall comply with the provisions of the Law on Organization of Local Government and the Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on standards and classification of administrative units; ensuring national solidarity, suitable with historical, traditional, and cultural factors of the locality, and respecting the opinions of the majority of voters.
- In the case of merging administrative units of the same level, the use of one of the existing names of the administrative units before the merger is encouraged for naming the administrative unit formed after the reorganization.

Pursuant to Article 2 of Resolution 35/2023/UBTVQH15, the principles for reorganizing district and commune-level administrative units in Vietnam are as follows:
- Ensure the leadership of the Vietnam Communist Party and enhance the leadership and directive role of the head of the agency or organization in implementing the reorganization of district and commune-level administrative units.
- The reorganization of district and commune-level administrative units must comply with the Constitution, exercising the correct authority, procedures, and legal stipulations.
- The reorganization must be consistent with provincial, rural, urban planning, or other relevant planning.
- Give due consideration to characteristics such as historical tradition, culture, ethnicity, religion, beliefs, customs, geographical location, natural conditions, community characteristics, requirements for ensuring national defense, security, social order, safety, economic and social development.
- Focus on effectively carrying out the communication and mobilization of the population to create consensus and high support for the administrative units' reorganization policy.
- Organize public and transparent consultations with voters in the locality, ensuring compliance with the law.
- Link the reorganization of administrative units with the renewal and reorganization of the political system's apparatus to be streamlined, effective, and efficient.
- Implement staff streamlining, restructuring, and improve the quality of officials and public employees, and workers.
- Resolve policies appropriately for officials, public employees, and workers.
- Implement specific support policies for district and commune-level administrative units after the reorganization.
