On November 9, 2020, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 133/2020/ND-CP detailing the implementation of certain provisions of the Law on Criminal Judgment Execution.

Article 26 of Decree 133/2020/ND-CP specifies the responsibilities of the relatives of inmates as follows:
- The family, relatives of the inmate are responsible for cooperating with the inmate detention facility to promptly educate, encourage, and assist the inmate in resolving difficulties and issues in serving the prison sentence; creating conditions for the inmate to feel at ease, strive to correct mistakes, and rehabilitate; helping to fulfill civil responsibilities caused by their relative's criminal behavior; coordinating to prevent and control diseases, care for and treat the inmate when sick; receiving and managing the inmate when temporarily suspended from serving the prison sentence for medical treatment at home.
- Being present at the inmate detention facility when requested by the Head of the inmate detention facility to discuss and coordinate in the education and preparation for the inmate's reintegration into the community; promptly informing the inmate detention facility of information affecting the inmate's sentence compliance; the inmate's violations of the facility's regulations; not abetting or concealing the introduction of prohibited items into the prison.
- Not exploiting visits to introduce non-relatives to meet with the inmate; enticing or gathering large crowds to the prison, impacting the security and safety of the inmate detention facility.
- The state encourages relatives of inmates to support the material needs of inmate rehabilitation, including school books, materials, school supplies, books, newspapers, television and radio equipment, fitness, sports, cultural, artistic, and entertainment tools to improve the material and spiritual life of the inmates.
