Regulations on the Management and Use of Auxiliary Drugs at Medical Examination and Treatment Facilities

Recently, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 31/2018/TT-BYT stipulating the implementation of the free medication support program for medical examination and treatment facilities to treat patients.

The management and use of support drugs at medical examination and treatment establishments are regulated in Circular 31 as follows:

- Drugs must be prescribed for the proper purpose and target, and must be prescribed and dispensed by medical staff.- When prescribing drugs under the support program, it must be clearly recorded that the drugs are obtained from the support drug source of the pharmaceutical business establishment in the medical record or prescription.- Drugs dispensed under the support program must be stored in a separate area and marked as part of the program.- In case the patient or the patient's family does not use all the dispensed drugs, they are responsible for returning the unused drugs to the medical examination and treatment establishment.- The destruction of expired drugs, drugs that do not meet quality standards, damaged or broken drugs, and drugs returned by patients or their families must be carried out according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health.
