The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued Official Dispatch 5432/SGDDT-GDTH dated August 30, 2024, guiding several initial school year activities and preparations for the new 2024-2025 school year for primary schools.

Regulations on study hours for primary school students in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2024-2025 school year

To prepare for the new school year 2024-2025, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City provides guidelines for conducting several initial school year activities and preparing for the new school year. Among them, the regulations on study time for primary school students in Ho Chi Minh City for the school year 2024-2025 are as follows:

The principal should proactively organize the school's schedule, construct a flexible and appropriate timetable, ensuring a minimum of 7 periods each day, and encourage arranging 4 periods in the morning and 3 periods in the afternoon. Alongside the 7 periods within the general education curriculum each day, the school can develop the School Program and plan to organize additional activities based on the needs and capabilities of the students and in agreement with the parents.

After each school day, the school can develop plans to organize after-school clubs for students until they are picked up. These plans must be approved by the competent authority before implementation.

The school should ensure the following daily timeframe:

- For classes held twice a day:

+ The first period of the morning session starts from 7:30 and no later than 7:45;

+ The first period of the afternoon session starts no earlier than 13:30.

Additionally, Official Dispatch 5432/SGDDT-GDTH also stipulates the use of notebooks for primary school students as follows:

All grade levels will uniformly use 3 types of grid notebooks:

- Math Notebook: Used for recording knowledge related to the Math subject and practicing Math exercises.- Vietnamese Notebook: Used for recording knowledge related to the Vietnamese subject.- Lesson Notebook: Used for recording other subjects.

For Grade 1, having a Lesson Notebook is not mandatory; students are encouraged to use the Lesson Notebook starting from mid-second semester.

Note:

- Students may write Reading Logs or Reading Journals in the Vietnamese Notebook.- For Grades 4 and 5, students are encouraged to take notes on important parts of the teacher's lectures in the Vietnamese Notebook.- If students have already taken notes and done exercises in other types of notebooks, there is no requirement for additional grid notebooks, and vice versa.

Back-to-school date for the 2024-2025 school year for primary school students in Ho Chi Minh City

According to Decision 3089/QD-UBND dated August 8, 2024, by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on the issuance of the school year timetable 2024-2025 for preschool, general, and continuing education in Ho Chi Minh City:

- School Start Date: August 26, 2024 (For Grade 1, it is August 19, 2024);- school year Opening Day: September 5, 2024;

From the school start date until the school year opening day, the principal will develop a plan for organizing initial school year activities, understanding the initial situation of students, and guiding parents on necessary information as highlighted in section 1 above.

The first week of the program will be implemented from September 9, 2024, to September 13, 2024; Following this, the subsequent weeks will be implemented according to the regulations. The second semester will begin from week 19 (January 13, 2025). Units should proactively arrange the program, teaching plans, and timetable to ensure the integrated program is executed from week 1 and subsequent weeks according to the school’s school year schedule.
