Recently, the Minister of Transport has issued Circular 73/2011/TT-BGTVT on the National Technical Regulation on Inland Waterway Signaling of Vietnam.

According to Circular 73/2011/TT-BGTVT, the night light of signal lights must ensure:
- During the night, the brightness of the signal must ensure a visibility of at least 1000 meters to the naked eye.
- When using electric lights to illuminate the signaling signs in place of signals, it must be ensured that the signals are clearly visible from a range of 500 meters or more.
- The night light of signals comes in 4 colors: Red - green - yellow - white
- The red light is the light of the channel boundary signal, the obstacle signal on the right bank, and the prohibition signal.- The green light is the light of the channel boundary signal, the obstacle signal on the left bank, and the traffic control signal.- The yellow light is the light of the direction indicator such as channel shifting, cross-channel indication, channel orientation on wide waterways, navigation span, and water boundary signals.- The white light is the light of channel center markers on wide waterways, obstacle markers on wide waterways, and signals at channel divisions or river junctions.
- The light has the following policies:
- Short flash: 1 short flash of light, followed by a long dark interval (designation FI).- Long flash: 1 long flash of light, followed by a short dark interval (designation OC).- Double flash: 2 short flashes of light in succession with a short dark interval in between, followed by a long dark interval (designation FI(2)).- Triple flash: 3 short flashes of light in succession with 2 short dark intervals in between, followed by a long dark interval (designation FI(3)).- Equal interval flash (designation ISO):
- Equal interval flash: 1 long flash of light, followed by a long dark interval, with equal light and dark durations.- Quick equal interval flash (also known as blink): short flashes of light alternated with short dark intervals, with equal light and dark durations.- Very quick continuous flash: very quick short flashes of light alternated with very short dark intervals (designation Q).- Continuous light (designation F).
