Regulations on Medical Examination and Treatment for the Elderly

Law on Elderly Persons 2009 was promulgated on November 23, 2009. The Law comprises 6 Chapters and 31 Articles. One of the notable contents in this document is the regulation on medical examination and treatment for elderly persons.

To be specific, according to the provisions of Article 12 Law on the Elderly 2009, the priority for medical examination and treatment for the elderly is implemented as follows:

- Persons aged 80 and above are given priority for medical examination before other patients, except for emergency cases, children under 6 years of age, and severely disabled persons;- Arranging appropriate beds for inpatient treatment.

At the same time, hospitals, except for pediatric specialty hospitals, have the following responsibilities:

- Organize a geriatric department or designate some beds for the treatment of elderly patients;- Restore the health of elderly patients after acute treatments in the hospital and guide continued treatment and care at home;- Combine traditional medicine treatment methods with modern medicine, and guide non-drug treatment methods at grassroots medical levels for elderly patients.

The State encourages organizations and individuals to provide free medical examination and treatment for the elderly.
