Regulations on Health Care for Athletes and Coaches with High Achievements

On April 29, 2019, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 36/2019/ND-CP detailing a number of articles of the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Physical Training and Sports.

According to the provisions of Decree 36/2019/ND-CP, units using high-achievement athletes are responsible for:

a) Initial health check-ups for athletes immediately upon their selection into training facilities and sports teams;

b) Periodic health check-ups for athletes at least twice a year;

c) Health check-ups for athletes before participating in high-achievement sports competitions.

To be specific:, the content of the athletes’ health check-ups outlined in points a and b above includes:

- Checking and assessing physical fitness levels;- Checking and assessing physical morphology;- Checking and assessing psychological state;- Checking and assessing biomedical status.

High-achievement athletes receive health care, functional recovery, and injury treatment at domestic medical facilities. In special cases, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism decides on injury treatment abroad.
