Purpose of creating groundwater resource maps at a scale of 1:200,000 in Vietnam

On June 21, 2013, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam promulgated Circular 17/2013/TT-BTNMT stipulating the technical standards for creating maps of groundwater resources at a scale of 1:200,000.

In Article 2 of Circular 17/2013/TT-BTNMT, the purposes for establishing groundwater resource maps at a scale of 1:200,000 are regulated as follows:

- Represent the results of investigation and evaluation of groundwater resources at a scale of 1:200,000 or results of investigation and evaluation at a larger scale.

- Serve state management activities on groundwater resources according to the socio-economic regions and major river basins (major river basins are identified according to Decision No. 1989/QD-TTg dated November 01, 2010, by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, on the promulgation of the interprovincial river basin list).

- Provide the basis for planning groundwater resources, planning the development of socio-economic regions, and major river basins.

- Serve the needs of exploitation and use of information for industries, localities, organizations, and individuals related to the exploitation and use of water resources.

Additionally, in Article 5 of Circular 17/2013/TT-BTNMT, the following products of groundwater resource maps at a scale of 1:200,000 are regulated:

- Groundwater resource maps;

- Specialized maps:

- Map of actual groundwater resource data;- Groundwater quality map;- Subterranean flow module map.

- Explanation of groundwater resource maps;

- Appendix: summary tables, statistical tables of aggregated survey results, detailed by water-bearing structures and administrative units; statistical tables of inventory of detailed survey points and other information. Drawings of sections, other diagrams.
