Promulgating the basis for inspecting imported salt according to Circular 39/2018/TT-BNNPTNT

On December 27, 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued Circular 39/2018/TT-BNNPTNT providing guidelines for the inspection of quality and food safety of imported salt under the management responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the provisions of Circular 39/2018/TT-BNNPTNT, the inspection of imported salt is based on the following grounds:

Quality inspection of imported salt:

- Certification and inspection results from a registered or recognized certification body for the imported salt consignment of the importer, in accordance with the national standard TCVN 9640-2013 industrial salt or the national technical regulation on industrial salt as per Section b, Clause 2, Article 3 of Decree 74/2018/ND-CP.

Food safety inspection of imported salt:

Self-declaration of product according to Article 4, Article 5 of Decree 15/2018/ND-CP and Clause 1, Article 3 of Decree 155/2018/ND-CP:

- For imported food salt (table salt): Self-declaration of product in compliance with the national technical regulation QCVN 9-1: 2011/BYT of the Ministry of Health on iodized salt.- For imported refined salt: Self-declaration of product in compliance with the national standard TCVN 9639-2013 salt (sodium chloride) refined and the national technical regulation QCVN 8-2:2011/BYT on the limits of heavy metal contamination in food.
