Prohibition on Encroachment Within the Maritime Infrastructure Protection Zone

the Government of Vietnam has just issued Decree 143/2017/ND-CP on regulations for the protection of maritime works. In this Decree, it stipulates the following actions will be strictly prohibited:

- Storing or containing flammable, explosive substances, hazardous materials that are against regulations, which can cause corrosion or damage to maritime structures without the permission of competent state authorities;- Discharging waste causing damage or impacting the durability and lifespan of maritime structures;- Illegal dredging in maritime channels, marine protection areas, port waters, or dredging not in accordance with the technical requirements approved by competent authorities; performing monitoring of dredging and dumping dredged soil inconsistently;- Conducting mineral exploitation activities, erecting fish traps, catching and aquaculture in maritime channels and maritime protection areas;- Encroaching on the maritime protection areas;- Engaging in activities that obstruct the management, exploitation, use, and protection of maritime structures;- Operating ships and other vessels contrary to regulations, affecting the quality of maritime structures;- Other activities impacting the safety in the management and exploitation of maritime structures;- Other acts prohibited by law.
