Principles of Operation of Signage and Signaling Systems

Circular 11/2018/TT-BGTVT stipulates regulations on common bridges and traffic in common bridge areas, issued on March 28, 2018. One of the noteworthy contents in this Circular is the principle of the operation of signaling systems.

To be specific, according to the provisions of Circular 11/2018/TT-BGTVT, the operating principles of signaling and signaling systems include:

1. In the common bridge area, the signaling systems on railways and roads leading to the common bridge must operate and display in accordance with the regulations of the national technical standards on railway signaling and road signaling currently in effect.

2. In the state where no train is present on the common bridge:

- The railway protection signal light is in the closed state (red light indicating prohibition of train passage);- The road signal is in the open state (green light indicating permission for road vehicles to pass over the bridge);- The common bridge barrier is in the open state (allowing road vehicles to pass over the bridge).

3. In the state where a train is approaching the common bridge:

- The road signal is in the closed state (red light indicating prohibition of road vehicles entering the bridge);- The common bridge barrier is in the closed state (prohibiting road vehicles from entering the bridge);- The railway protection signal light is in the open state (green light indicating permission for the train to pass over the bridge). The condition for opening the railway protection signal is that the road signal is in the closed state, the common bridge barrier is in the closed state, and there are no obstructions on the bridge.

4. After the train has left the bridge, the devices sequentially operate as follows:

- The railway protection signal light closes;- The road signal opens;- The common bridge barrier opens.
