Persons with how many degrees of myopia shall be eligible for exemption from military service in Vietnam?

I am approaching the age where I have to fulfill my military service obligation. Currently, my left eye has 2.5 degrees of myopia, and my right eye has 1 degree of myopia. Am I eligible for exemption from military service in Vietnam?

LawNet would like to answer your question as follows:

According to Section II Appendix I of Joint Circular No. 36/2011/TTLT-BYT-BQP regulating criteria for classification of diseases, the classification for myopia is as follows:

- Myopia below 1.5D (2 points);

- Myopia from 1.5D to below 3D (3 points);

- Myopia from 3D to below 4D (4 points);

- Myopia from 4D to below 5D (5 points);

- Myopia of 5D and above (6 points);

- Myopia that has been successfully operated on for more than 1 year, with good results, may result in a one-class decrease in visual acuity.

- Degenerative myopia due to severe myopia (from 3D and above) (6 points).

After being classified, depending on the individual's health condition, he will be considered for exemption from military service or not. Specifically, according to Clause 4 Article 9 of Joint Circular No. 36/2011/TTLT-BYT-BQP, the following criteria apply:

- Class 1: All 8 criteria score 1 point, he can serve in most military branches.

- Class 2: At least 1 criterion scores 2 points, he can serve in the majority of military branches.

- Class 3: At least 1 criterion scores 3 points, he can serve in some military branches.

- Class 4: At least 1 criterion scores 4 points, he can serve in a limited capacity in some military branches.

- Class 5: At least 1 criterion scores 5 points, he can perform some administrative duties when ordered.

- Class 6: At least 1 criterion scores 6 points, he is exempted from military service.

Therefore, in case your left eye has 2.5 degrees of myopia and your right eye has 1 degree of myopia, according to the regulations, you do not fall under the case exempted from military service. You may be able to serve in some military branches.
