Orientation for Urban Spatial Development by the People's Council of Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam until 2020

On December 20, 2008, the People's Council of Thanh Hoa Province issued Resolution 106/2008/NQ-HDND on the Master Plan for Socio-Economic Development of Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam until 2020.

Orientation for Urban Spatial Development by the People's Council of Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam until 2020 (Internet image) 

Resolution 106/2008/NQ-HDND on the orientation of urban space development in Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam by 2020 is as follows:

- The urban system of the province will be developed in a spread-out form from the central urban area to the coastal region and the southwest, distributed along the national highways.

- Thanh Hoa City: expansion towards the East, Northeast, and Southeast connecting with district-level town Sam Son and constructing the city on both banks of the Ma River. Upgrade Thanh Hoa City to a class I urban area by 2015 with a population size of approximately 350 thousand by 2015 and about 450-500 thousand by 2020.

- Bim Son town: invest and upgrade district-level town from the current class IV urban area to a class III urban area before 2015.

- Nghi Son urban area: invest and upgrade to a class III urban area by 2015, class II urban area by 2020, consistent with the development process of the Economic Zone and the South Thanh – North Nghe area.

- Central Western Ngoc Lac urban area: concentrate on rapidly constructing the infrastructure of commune-level town Ngoc Lac to meet class IV urban standards; continue to expand urban space to upgrade to a class III urban area by 2020, forming the growth nucleus of the Midland - Western mountainous region of the province.

- Besides the above urban areas, review and adjust the planning of other urban areas in the province. From now until 2015, focus on constructing the basic urban infrastructure system of district center towns, especially the internal road system and the power supply, water supply, and drainage systems. Invest in constructing commune-level towns, urban areas associated with the development of trade services, rural and mountainous markets system.
