Below are the regulations on the order of priority for complying with road traffic signals in Vietnam from January 1, 2025

Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 was approved by the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the seventh session, on June 27, 2024.

Order of priority for complying with road traffic signals in Vietnam from January 1, 2025

According to Clause 2, Article 11 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 stipulates the order of priority for complying with road traffic signals, specifically:

Road traffic participants must comply with road traffic signals in the following order of priority from top to bottom:

(1) Orders of the traffic controller;

(2) Traffic light signals;

(3) Road traffic signs;

(4) Road markings and other markings on the road surface;

(5) Marking posts, safety walls, barriers, reflective studs, reflective posts,

Km posts, H posts;

(6) Road traffic signal sound devices.

Regulations on the orders of the traffic controller in Vietnam according to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024

According to Clause 3, Article 11 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 stipulates the orders of the traffic controller as follows:

- The right hand raised vertically to signal road traffic participants in all directions to stop;

- Both hands or one hand extended horizontally to signal road traffic participants in front and behind the traffic controller to stop; road traffic participants on the right and left of the traffic controller are allowed to go;

- The right hand raised forward to signal road traffic participants behind and to the right of the traffic controller to stop; road traffic participants in front of the traffic controller are allowed to turn right; road traffic participants on the left of the traffic controller are allowed to go in all directions; pedestrians must walk behind the traffic controller.

Principles ensuring road traffic order and safety in Vietnam

- Comply with the Constitution, Vietnamese laws, and international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a signatory.

- Ensure road traffic is orderly, safe, and smooth, contributing to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense, security, and environmental protection; preventing violations of Law on Road Traffic Order and Safetys, road traffic accidents, and traffic congestion; protecting lives, health, and property of individuals and the property of agencies and organizations.

- Ensuring road traffic order and safety is the responsibility of agencies, organizations, and individuals.

- Road traffic participants must comply with the legal provisions on road traffic order and safety and other relevant laws, and have the responsibility to ensure safety for themselves and others.

- All acts of violating Law on Road Traffic Order and Safetys must be promptly detected, prevented, and strictly handled according to the legal provisions.

- Operations ensuring road traffic order and safety must be transparent, public, and convenient for the people.

- Ensuring road traffic order and safety is conducted uniformly based on assignment, grading, in accordance with the functions, tasks, and close coordination between relevant agencies, organizations, and individuals.

More details can be found in Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 which comes into force in Vietnam from January 1, 2025, except for the provisions in Clause 3, Article 10 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 which comes into force in Vietnam from January 1, 2026.
