New Regulations on Sick Leave and Maternity Policies for Coaches and Athletes

Recently, Decree 152/2018/ND-CP was issued by the Government of Vietnam, stipulating several policies for coaches and athletes during periods of training and competition. The document takes effect from December 24, 2018.

According to Decree 152, coaches and athletes during illness, maternity leave while in training camp, and competition will be entitled to the following policies:

For the subjects stipulated in points a, b, c of clause 1, Article 2 of Decree 152 participating in social insurance:

- Enjoy social insurance benefits, health insurance as prescribed by law for coaches and athletes participating in social insurance, and health insurance;- The agency employing the coach and athlete shall pay the medical examination and treatment costs outside the scope and level of health insurance coverage;- The agency employing the coach and athlete shall support the difference (if any) when the benefit level for sick leave days paid by the social insurance agency is lower than the daily payment for coaches and athletes participating in social insurance.

For the subjects stipulated in points a, b, c of clause 1, Article 2 of Decree 152 not participating in social insurance or not subject to social insurance:

- Enjoy health insurance benefits as prescribed by law;- The agency employing the coach and athlete shall pay the medical examination and treatment costs outside the scope and level of health insurance coverage;- The agency employing the coach and athlete shall support 50% of the daily payment for the days of medical examination and treatment leave.

For the subjects stipulated in point d, clause 1, Article 2 of Decree 152:

- Enjoy health insurance benefits as prescribed by law;- The agency employing the athlete shall pay the medical examination and treatment costs outside the scope and level of health insurance coverage;- Enjoy the full support payment prescribed in clause 4, Article 3 of Decree 152 for the days of medical examination and treatment leave.
