Ministry of Science and Technology is the regulatory agency for atomic energy

1. Develop, submit to the competent authority for promulgation or promulgate according to authority and organize the implementation of mechanisms and policies on the development and application of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.

2. State management of the application of atomic energy in economic-technical sectors; take the lead, cooperate with ministries and central authorities to develop, guide, and organize the implementation of master plans and plans for the development of radiation and radioactive isotope applications to serve socio-economic development; guide and organize the implementation of tasks in building radiation facilities and nuclear facilities as per the provisions of the law.

3. Manage radiation safety, environmental radiation, nuclear safety, security of radiation sources, nuclear security, and nuclear inspection for activities in the field of atomic energy nationwide.

4. Organize the management of the national environmental radiation monitoring and warning network and the national standard laboratories system in the field of radiation and nuclear measurement.

5. Specify and guide the registration and licensing for conducting radiation work; inspect and handle violations regarding radiation safety and nuclear safety assurance for activities in the field of atomic energy.

6. Manage nuclear fuel, spent nuclear fuel, nuclear material, source nuclear material, radioactive waste, and auxiliary services supporting atomic energy application; manage the import and export of radiation technology, nuclear fuel, spent nuclear fuel, nuclear material, and radiation sources nationwide.

7. Specify the control and handling of radiation incidents, nuclear incidents.
