On October 12, 2016, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 29/2016/TT-BTNMT, specifying the methods for determining areas where a coastal protection corridor must be established.
Accordingly, Circular 29 stipulates that based on the results of the assessment of the current status of coastal resources and the environment, the following tasks must be carried out:
- Evaluate and propose areas with ecosystems that need protection, areas that need to maintain ecosystem service values and natural landscapes;- Evaluate and propose areas affected by erosion, areas at risk of erosion associated with the requirement to minimize the impact level of coastal erosion, and respond to climate change and sea-level rise;- Evaluate and propose areas associated with ensuring the public's right to access the sea.
Additionally, Circular 29 also stipulates the proposal of a draft List of areas that must establish coastal protection corridors according to the assessment results determined according to the aforementioned regulations.
