The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued Circular 02/2020/TT-BNNPTNT stipulating the criteria for farm economy.

According to Article 4 of Circular 02/2020/TT-BNNPTNT, the method for calculating the total farm land area and production value of a farm is guided as follows:
- The total farm land area stipulated in Article 3 of this Circular is the total lawful business production land area of the farm as per the land law, including land areas for cultivation, livestock, forestry, aquaculture, salt production, and the land for building infrastructure serving the farm's production at the time of declaration.
- The farm's annual production value is the production value for at least one year achieved by the farm within the three years closest to the declaration year; calculated by the total production value of harvest or extraction periods within the year.
For newly established farms without harvested products, the production value is estimated based on the production plan and the actual implementation status of the farm.
Additionally, this Circular stipulates that specialized farms are identified according to the production field such as cultivation, livestock, forestry, aquaculture, salt production, with the production value share of the field accounting for over 50% of the farm's total production value in the year. Specialized farms are categorized as follows:
- Cultivation farm;- Livestock farm;- Forestry farm;- Aquaculture farm;- Salt production farm.
