Maximum Width and Length for Loading Goods on Motorcycles

Circular 46/2015/TT-BGTVT prescribes the load, road boundary dimensions; circulation of overloaded vehicles, over-dimension vehicles, and tracked vehicles on roads; transport of oversized and overweight goods; limits on loading goods on vehicles participating in road traffic issued by the Minister of Transport on September 7, 2015.

According to Circular 46/2015/TT-BGTVT, the permissible width for loading goods on road motor vehicles is the width of the vehicle's trunk as designed by the manufacturer or as per the renovation design approved by the competent authorities.

Whereas, the maximum loading width and length for road motor vehicles when operating on roadways are regulated as follows:

- The permissible loading length on road motor vehicles must not exceed 1.1 times the total length of the vehicle as designed by the manufacturer or according to the renovation design approved by the competent authorities and must not exceed 20.0 meters. When transporting goods longer than the length of the trunk, appropriate signaling as per regulations must be used, and the load must be securely fastened to ensure safety when participating in road traffic.

- Passenger vehicles are not allowed to load goods or luggage that protrudes beyond the vehicle's outer dimensions.

- Motorcycles and mopeds are not allowed to load goods or luggage exceeding the width of the luggage rack as designed by the manufacturer by more than 0.3 meters on each side or protruding beyond the rear of the luggage rack by more than 0.5 meters. The height of the load from the road surface must not exceed 1.5 meters.

- Non-motorized vehicles must not load goods exceeding one-third of the vehicle body's length at the front and rear and must not exceed 1.0 meter; nor should the goods exceed 0.4 meters on each side of the axle.
