The Lunar New Year holiday is approaching, and below is the specific holiday schedule for officials and public employees and workers to help everyone conveniently plan for the upcoming Tet celebration.
Regarding officials and public employees
According to Official Dispatch 6519/VPCP-KGVX, officials and public employees have the following Lunar New Year holiday schedule:
- A 5-day holiday from Monday, February 4, 2019 (i.e., the 30th day of the last month of the Year of the Dog) to the end of Friday, February 8, 2019 (i.e., the 4th day of the first month of the Year of the Pig).
- Additionally, 4 weekly rest days are added, with 2 days falling before the Tet holiday and 2 days after.
Therefore, the total Tet holiday for officials and public employees is 9 consecutive days from Saturday, February 2, 2019 (i.e., the 28th day of the last month of the Year of the Dog) to the end of February 10, 2019 (i.e., the 10th day of the first month of the Year of the Pig).
Regarding other employees
Under Article 115 of the Labor Code 2012, employees are entitled to 5 continuous days off with full salary during the Lunar New Year.
Employers and employees will mutually agree on whether the 5 days off will include 1 day at the end of the Lunar year and 4 days at the beginning of the new year, or 2 days at the end of the Lunar year and 3 days at the beginning of the new year.
However, realistically, companies will often arrange for employees to have more than 5 days off to celebrate the New Year with their families. These additional days off will be deducted from the annual leave balances. The specific number of days off will be determined by each company based on its conditions and needs.
