Regarding this issue, LawNet would like to answer as follows:

The Government of Vietnam issued Resolution 127/NQ-CP dated August 14, 2023 on application of granting electronic visas to citizens of countries and territories; international checkpoints allowing foreigners to enter and exit by electronic visas.

From August 15, 2023, grant of electronic visas (e-visas) shall be applicable to citizens of all countries and territories.

At the same time, the Government also announced a ists of International checkpoints (ports) allowing foreigners to enter and exit by electronic visas in Vietnam, including:

Resolution 127/NQ-CP takes effect as of August 15, 2023, replacing Resolution 79/NQ-CP of May 25, 2020 and Resolution 60/NQ-CP of April 27, 2022-

On June 24, 2023, the National Assembly approved the Law on amendments to some Articles of Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens and Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam 2023 which take effect as of August 15, 2023.

In which, there are amendments to the regulations on the duration of some types of visas as follows:

- Time limit of SQ visa does not exceed 30 days.

- Time limits of HN, DL and EV visas do not exceed 90 days.

- Time limit of VR visa does not exceed 180 days.

- Time limits of NG1, NG2, NG3, NG4, LV1, LV2, DT4, DN1, DN2, NN1, NN2, NN3, DH, PV1, PV2 and TT visas do not exceed one year

Thus, from August 15, 2023, the electronic visa (or e-visa) period has been increased from no more than 30 days to 90 days and is valid for one or more times compared to the Law on Entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam 2014.

Cases of visa issuance at border checkpoints in Vietnam

A foreigner shall be issued with a visa at a border checkpoint in the following cases:

- The foreigner departs from a country that does not have any visa-issuing authority of Vietnam;

- The foreigner has to stop by multiple countries before arriving at Vietnam;

- The foreigner comes to Vietnam to take a tour organized by an international tourism company in Vietnam;

- Foreign crewmembers of a ship anchoring at a Vietnam’s port and wish to leave Vietnam through another border checkpoint;

- The foreigner comes to Vietnam to attend a funeral of his/her relative, or to visit a gravely ill relative;

- The foreigner comes to Vietnam to participate in dealing with an emergency, rescue, prevention of natural disasters, epidemics, or for another purpose at the request of a competent authority of Vietnam.
