The Law on Biodiversity of Vietnam was issued on November 13, 2008 and officially effective from July 01, 2009. One of the basic contents of this Law is the regulation on biodiversity reports.
Specifically, according to Article 72 of the Law on Biodiversity 2008 of Vietnam, biodiversity report is part of the national environmental report.
A biodiversity report must contain the following principal details:
One, the current status and change of major natural ecosystems;
Two, the current status, distribution region, estimated number of individuals and characteristics of species on the list of endangered precious and rare species prioritized for protection, genetically modified organisms and invasive alien species;
Three, practical situation of biodiversity conservation; pressures on and challenges to biodiversity;
Four, requirements for biodiversity;
Five, evaluation of socio-economic development benefits from biodiversity conservation and sustainable development;
Six, biodiversity conservation solutions and plans.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment shall assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with concerned ministries and ministerial-level agencies in, elaborating biodiversity reports.
