Covid-19 prevention measures in Vietnam

1. Non-specific disease prevention measures

Each person proactively implements the following disease prevention measures:

- Encourage implementation of 2K (Mask - Disinfection). Encourage wearing masks in crowded places and on public transport. Disease prevention institutes at medical examination and treatment facilities comply with Decision 2609/QD-BYT dated June 20, 2023 of the Minister of Health on Instructions for preventing and controlling COVID-19 infection in medical examination and treatment facilities.

- Regularly wash your hands with clean water and soap or hand sanitizer; rinse your mouth and throat with mouthwash; avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth; cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, preferably with a cloth or handkerchief or disposable tissue or sleeve to reduce the spread of respiratory secretions; wash your hands with soap or hand sanitizer solution, especially after contact with suspect surfaces.

- Improve health: have a reasonable diet, rest, and activities.

- Enhance ventilation and environmental sanitation in housing areas, schools, and workplaces.

- Avoid contact with people with symptoms of acute respiratory illness (cough, fever, difficulty breathing, etc.).

- Educational institutions, agencies, offices, and production and business establishments guide pupils, students, and workers to implement the above disease prevention measures.

2. Specific disease prevention measures

Vaccinate against COVID-19 according to instructions from the Ministry of Health and local health authorities. Implement the integration of COVID-19 vaccination with regular vaccination activities according to the instructions in Appendix 4.

3. Border medical quarantine

Carry out monitoring of incoming passengers at border gates according to the provisions of Decree 89/2018/ND-CP.

4. Medicines, supplies, chemicals, and epidemic prevention and control equipment

Provinces and cities proactively prepare adequate drugs, supplies, chemicals, monitoring, testing, and epidemic prevention and control equipment in accordance with developments in the epidemic situation.

Measures to combat the COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam 

1. For confirmed cases

- Consumption and treatment management; infection prevention and control in medical examination and treatment facilities according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health.

- People with COVID-19 receiving outpatient treatment need to take the following infection prevention measures:

+ People with COVID-19 must wear masks. Self-isolation is recommended at the property for at least 5 days from the first appearance of symptoms or since having a positive SARS-CoV-2 test result, and they should wear a mask until the 10th day to avoid infecting others. If you need to leave the property, you need to wear a mask, regularly disinfect your hands, and limit contact with others.

+ Caregivers or people living in the same house as the sick person must wear a mask when in contact with the sick person; Limit contact with sick people.

+ Regularly washing hands with clean water and soap or hand sanitizer; clean and disinfect objects and contact surfaces such as table tops, door handles, handheld devices, toilets, sinks, etc., every day and when dirty.

+ Keeping the accommodation airy and clean.

- In case a person with COVID-19 dies: handle the body according to Circular 21/2021/TT-BYT dated November 26, 2021, of the Minister of Health regulating hygiene in burial and cremation.

2. For suspected cases

- Require people suspected of having the disease to take personal infection prevention measures:

+ Self-monitor your health.

+ Wear a mask when in contact with others or when leaving the property.

+ Limit contact with others.

+ Regularly wash your hands with clean water and soap or hand sanitizer; Clean and disinfect contact surfaces.

- Suspected cases with severe illness or high risk of serious illness (elderly people; people with serious underlying diseases such as diabetes/cardiovascular disease; people with immunodeficiency diseases; pregnant women) should be tested early to confirm diagnosis.

- If having the need to leave the property: wear a mask, regularly wash the hands with clean water and soap or hand sanitizer, and limit contact with other people.

- People suspected of having the disease: if they self-test and have a positive result, they need to notify the commune or ward health station where they stay for guidance and assistance.

3. Handling outbreaks

3.1. At the patient's household

- For people with COVID-19, follow Section IV, Clause 1.

- For family members: Implement the disease prevention measures mentioned in Section III, Clause 1.

- Clean, ventilate, and ventilate the house; regularly clean the floor, door handles, and surfaces of household objects with common detergents such as soap and other cleaning solutions.

3.2. At outbreaks in educational establishments, agencies, offices, production and business establishments

- For people with COVID-19, follow Section IV, Clause 1.

- For workers, pupils, and students: Implement the epidemic prevention and control measures mentioned in Section III, Clause 1.

- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as floors, elevator buttons, door handles, stair handrails, table tops, seats, sinks, toilets, lavabos, faucets, walls, windows, doors, etc.Increase ventilation in classrooms, workplaces, and living areas.

- Educational institutions, agencies, offices, production, and business establishments organize health monitoring of pupils, students, and workers to early detect cases of disease or suspected disease; proactively coordinate closely with local health agencies in epidemic prevention and control.

4. Communication on epidemic prevention and control

- Regularly update information about the COVID-19 epidemic situation in the world and Vietnam.

- Risk communication and disease prevention and control measures.

- Communicate full vaccination against COVID-19 according to instructions from the Ministry of Health.

- Communicate relevant policies, laws, and documents on infectious disease prevention and control so that people understand, agree, and actively participate in COVID-19 prevention and control activities.

Based on developments in the COVID-19 epidemic situation and recommendations from the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health will continue to update and adjust this guidance to suit the actual situation.
