Knowledge Required After Graduating from College in Tour Operations

According to current legal regulations, the operation of a college-level tourism tour is an industry and profession that manages, organizes, and arranges services for a tourism tour, resolves arising situations during the execution of the tour to ensure that the services provided are accurate, complete, and meet the best requirements as requested by the customers. Additionally, the profession of tourism tour operation can also receive and handle booking information for tourism services, cooperate with the business department, guide department, and other relevant departments to operate and execute the tour; establish and maintain good relationships with service providers and partners; ensure safety and security for customers as regulated; manage and supervise personnel, and scientifically and strictly evaluate job performance, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualification Framework.

As per Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulates, students majoring in College-Level Tourism Tour Operation upon graduation must be equipped with the following knowledge:

- Identify the position, role, and duties of the profession of Tourism Tour Operation;

- Present the organizational structure of the Vietnam tourism industry;

- Present basic knowledge about culture, history, geography, economy, psychology, and communication with tourists... in operating and executing tourism tours;

- Identify the process and working content at the office of a travel company;

- Describe the organizational structure, functions, and duties of positions in the tour operating department; relationships between departments in a travel company;

- Determine how to establish and maintain relationships with partners and customers;

- Describe the process of building a tourism tour;

- Present the process of creating, storing, managing customer files and service providers;

- Present the steps in the process of operating and executing a tourism tour;

- Present the process of booking tourism services;

- Understand the regulations on immigration procedures, regulations on waterway, roadway, and aviation transportation;

- Identify the role and importance of management, usage, and training of staff to meet professional standards;

- Describe the methods of planning, managing, and organizing meetings;

- Present the process and principles of managing incidents and emergencies in operating and executing tourism tours;

- Explain the role of building and maintaining relationships with partners at the destination, with service providers for the tourism tour.

- Present basic knowledge about politics, culture, society, law, national defense security, and physical education as per regulations.

Apart from the required knowledge, one must be equipped with necessary skills, autonomy, and responsibility at work, and other important criteria to be able to further develop at higher levels. This Circular clearly states the job positions that graduates have the competency to fulfill, including: Booking tourism services; Operating and executing tourism tours; Supervising the operation and execution of tourism tours; Managing the tourism tour operating department.
