Knowledge of the field of Sewage and Wastewater Treatment Engineering at the College Level

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs issued Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation from intermediate or college levels in transportation services, environment, and security sectors.

Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulates that the technical operation and wastewater treatment at the college level encompass performing tasks such as: operating the drainage network; maintenance and repair of the drainage network; operating and maintaining drainage pumping stations; operating wastewater treatment plants; maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment plants; monitoring wastewater quality during treatment processes to meet the requirements of level 5 in the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework. Knowledge of the wastewater and water treatment engineering field at the college level includes:

- Describing the ecological cycle, causes, and effects of environmental pollution, and measures to reduce environmental pollution;

- Presenting types, structures, and living conditions of microorganisms, as well as their role in wastewater treatment;

- Explaining the steps to prepare for operating, maintaining, and repairing the drainage network and wastewater treatment plants;

- Analyzing safety measures during the operation, maintenance, and repair of the drainage network and wastewater treatment plants;

- Analyzing the drainage network current state drawings, electric circuit diagrams, and other technical documents;

- Presenting energy and material saving measures in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the drainage network and wastewater treatment plants;

- Evaluating the components, physical, chemical, and biological properties of various types of wastewater;

- Presenting the structure, characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of different types of drainage systems;

- Describing the characteristics and usage scope of various types of pipes and drainage materials;

- Presenting functions, duties, and common damages of structures on the drainage network and within wastewater treatment plants;

- Explaining the causes, consequences, and remedial measures for frequently occurring damages on the drainage network and wastewater treatment plants;

- Describing health risks and potential dangers when operating, maintaining, and repairing the drainage network and wastewater treatment plants;

- Describing measurement, control, adjustment methods, and the structure, function of corresponding devices;

- Presenting calculation methods for the drainage pipe slope and how to calculate distance, depth of manholes;

- Presenting sanitation measures, maintenance, and repair procedures for drainage pipes, load-bearing manhole covers, manholes, connection points, pumping stations, etc.;

- Presenting the overview diagram of a wastewater treatment plant, processing levels in domestic and special industrial wastewater treatment plants;

- Analyzing the decomposition processes of pollutants in each structure and methods to remove them;

- Presenting the structure, function, and operating principles of structures and devices for wastewater treatment by mechanical, chemical, physico-chemical, and biological methods, disinfection, and deodorization structures;

- Explaining the operation, maintenance, and repair processes of wastewater treatment structures, sludge waste, garbage waste, and gas emissions in the plant;

- Listing the sources of origin, characteristics, and impacts of sludge waste, gas emissions, and garbage waste in the wastewater treatment system;
