As stipulated in Article 8 of the Decree 41/2014/ND-CP, the Inspection Department of the Ministry of Public Security is an agency of the Ministry of Public Security, directly under the direction and management of the Minister of Public Security and guided in inspection work by the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam. The Inspection Department of the Ministry consists of a Chief Inspector, Deputy Chief Inspectors, Inspectors, and officers, technical staff. Specifically:

- The Chief Inspector of the Ministry is appointed, dismissed, and removed from office by the Minister of Public Security with the consensus of the Chief Government Inspector of Vietnam.

- Deputy Chief Inspectors assist the Chief Inspector in charge of one or several operational areas as assigned by the Chief Inspector and are accountable before the law and to the Chief Inspector for their assigned tasks.
