Inspections of general sanitary conditions for self-supplied water in Vietnam

On November 30, 2006, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Circular 15/2006/TT-BYT on the sanitary examination of clean water, drinking water and household lavatories in Vietnam.

Inspections of general sanitary conditions for self-supplied water in Vietnam (Illustrative image)

Circular 15/2006/TT-BYT stipulates the regulations on inspections of general sanitary conditions for self-supplied water in Vietnam as follows:

1. For spring water or gravity-fed water:

- Inspection limit: Within a distance of 100 meters upstream from the water collection point.

- Inspection content:

- Human activities related to bathing, laundry, and resource extraction;

- Sewer pipes, canals, ditches;

- Aquaculture activities;

- Livestock, poultry, or other animals coming to bathe or drink water;

- Garbage, human waste, livestock waste, animal carcasses;

- Water conduits;

- Water containers and scoops.

- Evaluation method: According to the risk scoring method specified in Appendix 2 issued with this Circular.

2. For dug wells:

- Inspection limit: Within a distance of 10 meters from the center of the well.

- Inspection content: Well cover; Well wall; Well body; Well yard; Water retrieval tools; Wastewater drainage ditches and discharge points; Toilets, livestock pens; Garbage dumps and other pollution sources.

- Evaluation method: According to the risk scoring method specified in Appendix 2 issued with this Circular.

3. For drilled wells with water depth from 25 meters and above:

- Inspection content includes: Well head; Well yard; Water retrieval tools.

- Evaluation method: According to the risk scoring method specified in Appendix 2 issued with this Circular.

4. For drilled wells with water depth below 25 meters:

- Inspection content includes: Well head; Well yard; Water retrieval tools; Wastewater drainage ditch from the well and discharge points.

- Evaluation method: According to the risk scoring method specified in Appendix 2 issued with this Circular.

5. For rainwater storage tanks:

- Inspection content includes: Water collection surface and conduits; Trash trap box or chamber; Tank cover; Tank wall; Water retrieval tools.

- Evaluation method: According to the risk scoring method specified in Appendix 2 issued with this Circular.

6. For other water supply forms such as tanks, jars, water containers:

- Inspection content includes: Cover; Water containers; Hygiene condition inside the containers.

- Evaluation method: According to the risk scoring method specified in Appendix 2 issued with this Circular.
