Implementing the Memorandum of cooperation on tourism between Vietnam and Cambodia

On August 9, 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision 2333/QD-BVHTTDL to implement the Memorandum of Cooperation in tourism between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia signed on May 6, 2023, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Specific implementation tasks are as follows:

(1) Facilitate travel and cross-border movement

Encourage localities and enterprises to engage in discussions about road tourism, particularly self-driving car tours, by promoting conditions for cross-border tourism and encouraging Vietnamese travel businesses to cooperate with Cambodian businesses to develop tourism packages and routes of the two countries.

(2) Exchange tourism information and data

- Share experiences and update the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia with tourism statistics, legal documents on tourism management, and research on potential regional and global tourism markets;

- Utilize digital technology platforms to exchange information, monitor trends, and tourist preferences to continuously improve the quality of Vietnam's tourism products and services;

- Within the framework of the agenda of annual Tourism Working Group meetings, proactively share and exchange best practices and experiences in tourism development combined with conferences, seminars (MICE), agricultural tourism, community-based tourism, and destination management and development.

(3) Cooperation in tourism promotion and marketing

- Conduct tourism promotion campaigns on the official tourism information portal, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok...) about tourism cooperation with Cambodia, and multilateral tourism cooperation including Cambodia;

- Support the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia in organizing tourism introduction programs in major cities of Vietnam; develop an annual plan to organize tourism introduction programs in Cambodia/ASEAN to facilitate tourism businesses in connecting and fostering tourism investment opportunities. Assist the Cambodian side in selecting and inviting travel companies, travel agencies, hotels, airlines, major central and local media outlets to participate in the events;

- Annually cooperate with the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia to organize destination and service inspection trips in Vietnam for Cambodian travel companies, travel agencies, and media;

- Encourage Vietnamese tourism businesses to participate in major tourism events held in Cambodia by widely sharing information about the events on the website of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism;

- Support and facilitate travel companies and hotels from Vietnam and Cambodia in opening representative offices in each other’s countries.

(4) Link and develop tourism products

- Emphasize cooperation on cultural and heritage tourism development with Cambodia during the agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation framework meetings;

- Promote sports tourism and culinary tourism to diversify products by organizing sports events, culinary exhibitions, and culinary forums.

(5) Delegation exchange

- Strengthen the exchange of delegations between the leadership of the Ministry in charge of tourism, the leadership of tourism agencies of the two countries; bolster exchanges of press delegations, travel businesses to enhance the promotion and introduction of tourism potentials of both countries;

- Collaborate with Cambodia and Laos to promote the exchange of delegations in charge of tourism and jointly implement the Development Plan for Tourism in the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area.
