Husband and Wife Equality in Civil Relations

Gender equality means that men and women have equal positions and roles, are provided with conditions and opportunities to develop their capabilities for the development of the community and family, and equally enjoy the benefits of such development.

According to the provisions of Article 18 of the Law on Gender Equality 2006, the contents on gender equality within the family include:

  1. Husband and wife are equal in civil relations and other relations related to marriage and family.
  2. Husband and wife have equal rights and obligations in the ownership of common property, equality in the use of common income of the couple, and decision-making regarding resources in the family.
  3. Husband and wife are equal in discussing, deciding on the choice and use of appropriate family planning methods; using leave time to take care of the sick child as prescribed by law.
  4. Sons and daughters are equally cared for, educated, and given conditions by the family to study, work, play, entertain, and develop.
  5. Male and female members of the family share the responsibility of household chores.
