How Do Departments Under the Faculty of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy Operate?

On January 10, 2014, Circular 01/2014/TT-BYT was issued by the Ministry of Health, regulating the functions, tasks, organization, and activities of the Department of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy in public hospitals.

The operation of the Department of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy in state hospitals is stipulated in Circular 01/2014/TT-BYT. To be specific:

- Activities of the outpatient treatment department

- Organize the reception of patients according to the procedure;- Depending on the condition of the patient, the practitioner performs medical examination, prescribing, and recording in the medical record book; provide outpatient treatment according to the provisions of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment; transfer patients to the inpatient treatment department of the facility;- For outpatient treatment patients, practitioners apply traditional medicine treatments with and without medication; combine traditional medicine with modern medicine and appropriate diagnostic techniques according to the condition of the disease;- Perform prescription writing, drug receipt, dispensing, record keeping, summarizing, and reporting as required by law.

- Activities of the inpatient treatment department

- Organize and implement medical examination, treatment, and combine traditional medicine methods with modern medicine during inpatient treatment to monitor disease progression and promptly adjust appropriately;- Perform activities as stipulated at Point d, Clause 1 of this Article;- Organize the receipt of drugs from the pharmacy department and dispense drugs for inpatient patients;- Monitor the adverse effects of drugs.

- Activities of the traditional medicine pharmacy department

- Develop plans and make annual forecasts concerning medicinal materials, traditional medicine ingredients, Eastern medicine drugs, and drugs from medicinal materials used in the department for submission to the hospital director for approval;- Ensure the storage and quality assurance of drugs;- Regularly monitor and inspect drug quality;- Organize a traditional medicine pharmacy counter to dispense drugs for outpatients and provide decoction services for outpatients;- ...
