High school students in Vietnam allowed to change their chosen subjects at the end of the school year

Following Official Dispatch 1496/BGDDT-GDTrH dated April 19, 2022 on implementing the secondary education program for the 2022-2023 school year, facing with the current actual situation for the first school year of implementing the 2018 General Education Program at the high school level, the Ministry of Education and Training temporarily guides the conversion of selected subjects and subject clusters at the high school level as follows:

- Students' choice of subjects and study topics should remain stable until the end of grade 12.

In special cases, if students wish to change their chosen subjects or subject areas, the change will be made at the end of the school year to ensure implementation of the school's educational plan, regulations on testing and assessment, and time for students to supplement their knowledge and skills.

The principal considers and decides to allow students who wish to change subjects to choose subjects and study topics suitable to the school's organizational capacity.

- Students who wish and are approved by the school to change their chosen subject or subject area must have a written commitment to self-supplement knowledge and skills of the new subject program and new learning topics in the previous class (with confirmation of consent and commitment from the student's parents or guardian) to have enough capacity to continue learning new subjects and new learning topics in the next class.

- The school has appropriate solutions to support students in supplementing knowledge and skills of new subjects and new learning topics; organize testing and evaluation of students' self-addition of knowledge and skills according to the content and requirements that need to be met as prescribed in the subject program to ensure that students have enough capacity to continue learning new subjects and new learning topics in the next class.
