Hanoi-Vietnam: What are the documents used as basis for birth re-registration?

Recently, the Vietnam Ministry of Justice issued Circular 15/2015/TT-BTP detailing the implementation of several provisions of the Civil Status Law and Decree 123/2015/ND-CP of the Government of Vietnam.

Documents used as the basis for birth re-registration in Vietnam are stipulated in detail in Circular 15/2015/TT-BTP as follows:

Documents used as the basis for birth re-registration in Vietnam according to Article 26 of Decree 123/2015/ND-CP Documents issued by competent authorities of Vietnam

- A copy of the birth certificate issued by a competent authority of Vietnam (notarized or certified copy, copy issued according to the birth register).

- An original or copy of the document used as a substitute for the birth certificate issued before 1945 in the North and before 1975 in the South.

- ID card, Citizen Identity Card or passport;

- Household registration book, Temporary residence book, documents proving the place of residence;

- Diploma, certificates, academic transcript and academic records issued or certified by a competent training institution;

- Other documents specifying the applicant’s full name and date of birth;

- Documentary evidences for parent-child relationship.

Note: In cases where the applicant for the re-registration of birth does not have the documents stipulated in Decree 123, the documents issued by competent authorities of Vietnam serve as the basis for determining the content of the re-registration of birth

Detailed regulations may be found in Circular 15/2015/TT-BTP which takes effect from January 02, 2016.
