Hanoi-Vietnam: Skills acquired for graduates of college-level traditional medicine

Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH effective from February 10, 2019 stipulates the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements for graduates at the intermediate and college levels in the health and social service sectors in Vietnam.

Under the Regulation on Minimum Knowledge Volume and Competency Requirements for Graduates at Intermediate and College-level Traditional Medicine, issued together with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the minimum skills acquired for graduates of college-level traditional medicine in Vietnam are as follows:

- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, the community, colleagues in the healthcare team, and in scientific activities;

- Proficiently use specialized terminologies of traditional medicine in communication with colleagues; critique and employ alternative solutions;

- Develop plans for counseling, primary healthcare, and community health education;

- Confidently and comprehensively perform disease examination methods, propose appropriate treatment approaches, and prepare traditional medical records;

- Skillfully conduct acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping techniques in treating some common diseases;

- Perform the techniques of preparing common medicinal herbs;

- Master basic health preservation exercises, select and guide specific exercises to individual patients for disease prevention and treatment;

- Expertly perform massage and acupressure techniques for disease prevention and treatment;

- Accurately prescribe and modify medications for treating particular common diseases;

- Collect, evaluate, store, and selectively use information sources for self-study and professional development purposes;

- Effectively convey information, ideas, and solutions to colleagues, and instruct interns on specialized knowledge and skills;

- Utilize basic information technology as prescribed; exploit, handle, and apply IT in professional work within the field;

- Use basic foreign language proficiency, achieving level 2/6 in the Vietnam Language Proficiency Framework; apply the foreign language skills in the professional work within the field.
