Hanoi-Vietnam: Regulations on training objectives in the intermediate-level forestry sector

Under Circular 40/2014/TT-BGDDT, the vocational framework program for the intermediate-level forestry sector is designed to train intermediate-level forestry technicians to master basic knowledge and skills in forestry techniques; possess ethics, professional conscience, cooperation attitude with colleagues, respect for laws and workplace regulations; and have health to work. As for professional capacity, learners are equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills to find employment, and also have the ability to self-study, self-research to absorb scientific and technical achievements or continue their education to higher levels to meet the development requirements of themselves, science and technology, and the socio-economic system. The training objectives are set so that after completing the program, learners can meet the following requirements:

Regarding knowledge:

- Describe the main characteristics of forest ecosystems, forest structure, regeneration, growth and development, and forest succession in Vietnam.

- Identify the basic characteristics to recognize some common and rare plant and animal species in Vietnam's forests.

- Explain the basic content of methods for measuring, drawing, and using forestry maps and methods for forest resource investigation and planning.

- Describe the fundamental contents of techniques for forest fire prevention and fighting, pest management, and forest resource protection, both flora and fauna.

- Explain the process and basic techniques of fertilizers, forest plant varieties, nursery techniques, planting, nurturing, protecting, and developing forests; harvesting, preserving, and preliminary processing of forest products; agroforestry practices.

Regarding skills:

- Recognize forest ecosystems, forest structures, regeneration modes, forest succession, and classify some common and rare forest animal and plant species in Vietnam.

- Proficiently perform simple technical operations on surveying, mapping, forest planning, and managing forest resources.

- Carry out basic technical operations in nursery propagation techniques, techniques for planting, nurturing, protecting, and developing forest resources, harvesting, preservation, and preliminary processing of forest products according to forestry technical procedures.

- Design and organize the implementation of agroforestry models, and participate in designing technical forest engineering projects with the guidance, support, and direction of forestry engineers.

- Have the ability to organize and transfer simple techniques to workers and farmers in forestry production.

Regarding attitude: Possess good ethical qualities and a correct perception of the profession, cooperate with colleagues, respect laws and workplace regulations, be honest and disciplined, ready to take on assigned tasks.
