Hand sanitizer during Covid-19 in Vietnam: Must use a solution containing at least 60% alcohol

This is the recommendation of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control of Vietnam in the Decision No. 2233/QĐ-BCĐQG on the promulgation of guidelines for handling corpses of people who died due to acute respiratory infections caused by SARS-COV-2 virus in the community.

According to Section 4 Part I of the Guidance issued together with the Decision No. 2233/QĐ-BCĐQG of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control of Vietnam, 06 principles of prevention and treatment of Covid-19 are as follows:

- Currently, there is no specific treatment for Covid-19 disease and there is no vaccine to prevent the disease, so it is mainly supportive and symptomatic treatment. The main preventive measures are early detection and isolation of cases, isolation of first-round contacts (who are contacts of confirmed cases), second-round contacts (who are close contacts of people who have been in close contact with the disease).

- Take droplet precautions to avoid direct infection by inhaling airborne virus-containing droplets through coughing, sneezing, talking, and contact precautions to avoid infection indirectly by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching eyes, nose, and mouth. General preventive measures include: limiting leaving the house when not absolutely necessary; if you have to leave the house, you must wear a mask and keep your distance according to regulations; frequently washing hands with soap and clean water or hand sanitizer; clean and ventilated house; electronic medical declaration.

- The minimum distance and wearing of masks comply with the regulations of the Government or the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 prevention and control of Vietnam.

- Hand washing is understood as washing hands with clean water and soap for at least 30 seconds or cleaning hands with hand sanitizer.

- Hand sanitizer solution: Must contain at least 60% alcohol or antibacterial active ingredients as prescribed by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam.

- Surface disinfectant solution: (i) disinfectant solution containing at least 70% alcohol (ii) mix household toilet cleaning solution (containing about 5% sodium hypochlorite) in the proportion of 20 ml of cleaning solution with 01 liter of water, (iii) or solution containing 0.5% active chlorine after mixing.
