Guidelines on the Arrangement of Maritime Equipment on Vessels

On June 21, 2018, the Ministry of Transport issued Circular 39/2018/TT-BGTVT to promulgate the National Technical Regulation on classification and construction standards for inland waterway vessels - 2nd Amendment:2018 QCVN 72:2013/BGTVT. The document takes effect from January 31, 2019.

According to Circular 39, the arrangement of marine equipment on ships is carried out as follows:

- Marine equipment using electric power must be supplied with electricity throughout the day and night from the ship's power station or battery to ensure the equipment is ready for operation.- All marine equipment using electric power must be connected via separate power lines from a common electrical panel (electric cabinet) shared by the marine equipment.- Each separate power line supplying each piece of marine equipment must have a power switch and fuse or an automatic power cut-off device.- The electrical wiring of the marine equipment must be properly insulated and in accordance with the requirements of the electrical equipment section.- Marine equipment must be specialized for marine use and be accompanied by the manufacturer's technical documentation.
