Guidelines on policies for coaches and athletes in case of illness

Recently, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam issued Circular 18/2019/TT-BLDTBXH guiding the implementation of salaries, training support, competition, social insurance, unemployment insurance, labor accident insurance, occupational disease policies for sickness, maternity, labor accidents for coaches, and athletes during the period of concentrated training and competition.

To be specific, policies for trainers and athletes regarding sickness, maternity leave, occupational accidents, and occupational diseases during the training and competition period are guided in Article 5 Circular 18/2019/TT-BLDTBXH, specifically as follows:

- Trainers and athletes who are sick or on maternity leave during the training and competition period will receive policies according to the regulations in Article 5 of Decree 152/2018/ND-CP.

- Trainers and athletes who suffer occupational accidents or diseases during the training and competition period are entitled to the following policies:

+ They are entitled to the benefits specified in points a, b, d, and đ Clause 1, Clause 2, and Clause 3 of Article 6 of Decree 152/2018/ND-CP, provided by the employing agency.
+ The employing agency must fully pay their salaries and benefits as stipulated in Article 3 of Decree 152/2018/ND-CP when they have to take a break from training or competition for medical treatment and rehabilitation of their work-related functions.

In cases where the training or competition period ends, but the coach or athlete still needs to take time off for medical treatment and rehabilitation of their work-related functions due to a work-related accident or occupational disease that occurred during the training or competition period, the employing agency must continue to fully pay their salaries and benefits as stipulated in Article 3 of Decree 152/2018/ND-CP until they have stabilized, but not exceeding 6 months from the date of the work-related accident or occupational disease.
