The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issues Circular 07/2017/TT-BNNPTNT regarding the National Technical Regulation "Aquatic Products – Frozen Pangasius Fillet".
According to Circular 07, the determination of net weight is guided by Circular 07 as follows:
For Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) products
- After determining the total weight, the sample is placed in a basket under a gentle spray of cold water, carefully stirred to avoid breakage until the surface ice layer completely melts.- Once the surface ice layer is completely removed, the sample is placed in a basket with a tilt angle of about 30 degrees to drain the water, ensuring the product units are separated. Use a paper towel or a soft cloth to absorb any remaining water on the surface of the sample, then immediately weigh to determine the net weight of the product.
For block frozen products
- For block frozen samples that can be separated into individual product units in the frozen state- Separate each product unit and determine the net weight similarly to Individually Quick Frozen products.- For block frozen samples that cannot be separated into individual product units in the frozen state- Place the sample, after determining the total weight, into a suitably sized basket and immerse it in a prepared water bath. Use fingers to gently separate the parts of the block into individual product units. If ice layers remain, continue immersing the product in the water bath until the surface ice layer completely melts.- Once the ice layer is fully removed, place the sample in a basket with a tilt angle of about 30 degrees to drain the water. Use a paper towel or a specialized soft cloth to absorb any remaining water on the surface of the sample, then immediately weigh to determine the net weight of the product.
More details can be found in Circular 07/2017/TT-BNNPTNT effective from May 5, 2017.
