On December 28, 2016, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs issued Circular 49/2016/TT-BLDTBXH promulgating the national technical regulations for personal eye protection equipment used in welding work.
According to the provisions set forth in Circular 49/2016/TT-BLDTBXH, personal eye protection devices used in welding work are classified as follows:
Classification by type and shape:
- Glasses with or without frames;- Closed-type protective glasses;- Masks;- Handheld face shields;- Protective headgear.
Classification by lenses:
- Glass lenses (including both brittle glass lenses and chemically, thermally, and impact-resistant glass lenses);- Lenses made of organic compounds;- Multi-layer lenses: lenses made from multiple layers bonded together with adhesive.
Classification by protective function
Personal eye protection devices used in welding work may have one or more of the following functions:
- Protection against impacts from various hard objects;- Protection against optical radiation;- Protection against splashes of molten metal;- Protection against falling and splashing liquids;- Protection against dust;- Protection against gases;- Any combination of the above factors.
