On February 05, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Decision 245/QD-TTG approving the Planning for the Development and Application of Nuclear Energy for the period until 2030, with a Vision to 2050.

General objectives for the development of nuclear energy in Vietnam in the future

In Decision 245/QD-TTG of 2025, the general objectives for the development and application of nuclear energy up to 2030, with a vision to 2050 in Vietnam are set as follows:

* General Objectives by 2030

The legal system, policy mechanisms, and state management agencies on nuclear energy are completed in accordance with international practices; the system of research, application, and training facilities in the nuclear energy field is streamlined, upgraded in terms of technical infrastructure and human resource quality, and operates effectively; several key projects have been approved for implementation according to schedule; certain fields of science, technology, and application of nuclear energy have competitively reached an advanced level in the region;

Radiation and radioactive isotope applications are widely and effectively deployed in various sectors, making a positive contribution to increasing productivity, quality, and efficiency in business production, improving public health, protecting the environment, and ensuring nuclear safety and security.

Swift completion and development of national nuclear power infrastructure to support the deployment of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project and continued research, implementation of the National Nuclear Power Development Program. Research and set orientations to promote exploration, exploitation, processing, and use of radioactive ores in accordance with Vietnam's practical conditions.

* Vision to 2050

The application of radiation, radioactive isotopes, and nuclear power development significantly and effectively contributes to socio-economic development, energy security, food security, environmental protection, sustainable development, and ensures nuclear safety and security;

The level of nuclear science and technology and many fields of nuclear energy application are on par with the average level of developed countries; mastering and gradually becoming self-reliant in advanced technologies and techniques, ensuring the effective contribution of nuclear energy applications in economic and social sectors.
